ABOUT US
Our History
National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) is an “organization of organizations,” comprised of 330 campus and community-based sections and 33 national women’s organizations that enlightens, inspires, and connects more than 2,000,000 women and men.  Its mission is to lead, advocate for, and empower women of African descent, their families, and communities. It was founded in 1935 by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, an influential educator and activist, and for more than fifty years, the iconic Dr. Dorothy Height was president of NCNW.
Today, the NCNW programs are grounded on a foundation of critical concerns that are now “NCNW Priorities.” Our organization promotes education; encourages entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and economic stability; educates women about health and promotes healthcare access, and promotes civic engagement and advocates for sound public policy and social justice.

Together, we are fostering leadership, driving positive change, and shaping a brighter future for generations to come. Whether you are a member, supporter, sponsor or just exploring our site, I invite you to join us in making a meaningful impact in our community.

Thank you for visiting.  I look forward to a remarkable journey ahead as we contine to honor the legacy of Dr. Bethune.

Dr. Mary McLeod   Scholarship
In the spirit of our founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, the Central Florida Section of NCNW remains deeply committed to education as a pathway to empowerment and opportunity. Dr. Bethune believed that “knowledge is the great equalizer,” and her lifelong dedication to learning continues to guide our work today.
Through the generosity of our supporters and the dedication of our members, our scholarship program has impacted 12 deserving students, helping them take meaningful steps toward higher education, career training, and professional goals. To date, we have proudly raised $6,000 in scholarship support, easing financial barriers and investing directly in the futures of our youth.
Each scholarship awarded represents more than financial assistance, it reflects NCNW’s ongoing promise to uplift, encourage, and prepare the next generation of leaders. As we continue to build on Dr. Bethune’s legacy, we remain focused on expanding educational access and creating lasting impact for students and families across Central Florida.
Together, we are transforming lives—one student, one scholarship, and one future at a time.
